My
day's don't differ to much, yet. I get to work somewhere between
7:00am-8:00am, it kind of depends on what we have on our schedules. I
have been invited to attend different meetings and functions with the
Intergovernmental Relations staff so sometimes I am required to be at
the office earlier to carpool to these different functions if they
are elsewhere and require transportation.
I
have a small office, way in the back. I know what you are thinking,
yeah they put the intern way in the back. Haha not true, as it turns
out the Intergovernmental Relations department is in the back end of
the building on the second floor. I have a laptop in my office and I
first must check my business email to see if I have any new
scheduling or articles to read so I can be informed on topics when we
attend the different meetings and functions. If I have been giving an
assignment I will be working on that until completion.
My
boss Leah has me writing letters for Mayor Lewis and these
assignments are helpful and also a learning experience. It was tough
originally because I never wrote a letter for someone else let alone
never meeting the person to understand how they communicate to
others. But I gave it my best effort and believe I did well. The week
is wrapping up and I hope next week is just as fun and I’m sure
more learning opportunities are coming...
2. Hi Skye, I’m glad you mentioned your initial discomfort with letter writing for someone else. At my internship, I always have to package things up or even wrap client gifts from other people. Even though they always include a personal note, It always makes me the slightest bit unnerved. Lucky for me, they are pretty good at writing their own letters.
ReplyDeleteHi Skye,
ReplyDeleteI can relate to the letter writing. I have been doing some letters of recommendation for a few of our agents and clients. It is weird because at our stage in life it is normal to ask someone for a letter for ourselves, but not write one for someone else. Fortunately, it sounds like you handled it well and moved on to your next task.

Hi Skye,
ReplyDeleteIt sounds like you are getting in some good experience and are enjoying the learning opportunities. It’s great that you are getting to do work you have never done before and will end up serving you well in future positions. I hope you continue to enjoy the experience.
Kind Regards,
Robin
Hey there Skye,
ReplyDeleteIt seems like we have had similar experiences getting thrown into work very quickly. I like that sort of start to the internship process because it makes me think critically and be quick to have good judgement. I wish you good luck with meeting all the people that will make your network of contacts grow to help you do well in your future!
