Dear Leah...

Dear Leah,

How can I thank you for all you did for me? You seen something in me and brought it out into the light, you gambled on me and through that you helped me become a better professional. You taught me a lot more about leadership and I learned and gained so much from you. Every opportunity I got I soaked up knowledge from you and your actions. I also owe you a congratulations, with your well deserved promotion I got to see leadership change first hand. You quizzed me and made sure I learned the skills and had me put them to work. By understanding what I hoped to accomplish and where I wanted to be professionally you put me into situations to have me better myself and learn from my encounters. Through all the encounters they will benefit me to become a better professional, and what to expect involving all government to government relations. I hope I met your expectations you had for me and I am glad I got the opportunity to work under you and for the Town of Gilbert. This is an experience I will never forget and will put all the knowledge obtained to use in my future career path. Thanks for everything you did for me, I will see you soon.

Best Wishes,

What were the most important things you learned from your internship?

What were the most important things you learned from your internship?
I believed the most important thing I learned during my internship was leadership, the different aspects that reflect it. The importance of being a good leader to better accommodate and form a good team of employees. I learned the importance of a good team to help better accomplish your everyday, weekly, monthly and yearly tasks. If you have a hard working and focused team there is nothing you cannot accomplish and it will provide a fun and peaceful working environment.

Did you meet your initial goals?
Yes, believe I did meet my initial goals I set out to at the beginning of my internship. I wanted to better hone my skill of effective communication and I think I have. With the help of my direct supervisor I learned how to do it better, what to practice and what to do to become a more effective communicator. Not just lessons of how to heard but how to stand out and be relevant. I also learned how to better network and I was able to get better at it throughout my internship. This is a skill I will capitalize on through my professional career and personal life. My supervisor also taught me to capitalize on my networking opportunities to further my career. And finally, my goal of becoming a better and effective intergovernmental relations team member, and I honestly think I established a good relationship with the team. I believe I met this goal, I was able to perform with different aspects of government and became knowledgeable the on process.

So all in all I believe I did good with my goals and had a enjoyable time with my internship.

Career Service 2 [write up]

For a Career Service write-up I attended an event the ASU College of Public Service & Community Solutions put on, Public Service Impact Talks: Justice in Action. I was in attendance at the Downtown campus in Cronkite theater, I first seen the event advertised as on the Career Services calendar so I registered to attend online. When I was at downtown campus I seen a flier and I grabbed it and waited. On the flier I read I was interested in two of the presenters topics, Police Legitimacy: Repairing the Damaged Trust; and Incarcerated in America: Why You Should Care.

Doug Mellom a graduate research assistant for the school of Criminology and Criminal Justice presented about Police Legitimacy: Repairing the Damaged Trust. His presentation was a relevant controversial topic and it enlighten people to the disrespectful patterns on both sides. What I took from what was presented is how the quality of treatment, and the quality of decision making, should reflect procedural justice. And procedural justice and police legitimacy should include compliance, cooperation, and satisfaction. Mellom ended his presentation with a power picture of Eric Gardener being put in a choke hold by police, in which later killed Gardner.

Kevin Wright an ASU assistant professor for the School of Criminology and Criminal Justice presented about Incarcerated in America: Why You Should Care. I thought was very interesting and the presentation was eye-opening. I mean not so much for me but for others in attendance. I come from poverty and see the scenarios he spoke of and can relate to the outcomes that were spoken throughout the presentation. The opposition saying that “they chose to engage in crime” or “their victims need justice', I mean there are choices but the personal situations also are not put into perspective.

All the topics were necessary in the state of America at the moment and we do need to think about them or be aware of them whether we are with or against them.

Career Service 1 [write up]

For this Career Service write up I watched a webinar on the Career Service site, it is the Salary Negotiation one. This had very insightful tips that I will put to use and keep in mind when it is my time to use tactic I will the salary negotiating skills to do so. I learned the proper knowledge of negotiating, what it is as to what items can be negotiated along with the do and don'ts.

To hold a formal discussion between employer and myself to reach an agreement, first I must honestly assess myself, second understand what are my needs, and third research the company and the industry. These three-steps are are helpful because I can now think about them to properly apply when the time is right and my self assessment will be accurate and I will know what else I also need to do.

All the do's and don'ts were all very helpful and interesting, I also think a lot were common sense but needed to be said so it's out in the open and can be properly reviewed and you can be prepared. All from knowing who you are negotiating with, when to negotiate, and to negotiate everything at once. Also involving not negotiating on the spot leaving yourself time to think and assess. And of course don't negotiate unless you are ready and prepared to take the job.

In conclusion, the last tips I think are the most important. Once you accept an offer you are now obligated to stop interviewing and let the other companies know, this goes back to don't negotiate on the spot giving yourself time to think and assess. And finally, making sure they follow up in writing. Everything that was negotiated and what was decided upon in the agreement between you and the company. And to stay excited about your new job, that is what this was all for right. I very much so enjoyed this webinar.

What are the strengths of your organization?

What are the strengths of your organization?
The strengths of the Intergovernmental Relations department in the Town of Gilbert is their commitment to public service, to the town of Gilbert. They take pride in the accomplishments and the change, forming Gilbert to be a well rounded and respected town here in Arizona. The team work and the commitment to get the job done. One analogy I heard a lot was, Gilbert is the little brother that is finally growing up. I liked hearing this, because it was true in so many ways.

If you were in charge of a similar organization, are there any things you would do differently?

I do not think there is much to change but follow the consistent flow of placing good leadership to lead the departments. Ensuring everyone wants to do a good job and have the same commitment to public service and want to accomplish the goals we set out accomplish together as a team. The “Team Gilbert” mentality is an appropriate one, it drives the employees to do a good job and ensures the employees that they are all team members. That we are all trying to accomplish the same goal for the betterment of the Town of Gilbert.

Work Everyday... [Free Write]

Last year I had a class that I was very interested in taking and it wasn't a core class but an upper-division elective for me, the class was “reservation economic development”. This class was very helpful for me to start honing my networking skills with different tribal governments and personnel. I learned a lot and learned more about my networking skills that became very helpful for me this internship, same game but just a lot of different players. One acquaintance I was able to meet and maintain a relationship with is Arizona legislative district 7 senator Carlyle Begay. During our class through invitation we had the opportunity to meet him and do a Q & A. Our class was 75% Native Americans everyone was intrigued to listen to him. Out of the whole class who attended I was the only one asking the difficult questions and not just letting him force feed us the answers. It was apparent we had differences in opinions, but I respected him, I knew I could learn from him even if he wasn't my cup of politics. Back to now, I ran into Senator Begay at a function in Gilbert and he at first did not remember me, but later took interest to where we first met. Our networking time was coming to an end but he did talk with me, I figured that was that. He later would get in contact with my supervisor Leah and request a lunch with her and I. She told me and asked if I knew Senator Begay prior, and I told her how I met him, how I questioned him, and how we talked while networking. The lunch was brief, more of a meeting, he just asked how was school, what I was in school for, and when will I be complete. There was small talk and we touched other subjects, he then told me he wanted to have another lunch when I was finishing up my internship. But before our next lunch he invited to attend a meeting with him at Arizona Senator John McCain's office. I always knew that there would be times that I would meet or be in the presence of politicians that may not be my cup of politics but how I handle it will prove if I was where I want to be with an involvement in politics. I jumped through a lot of hoops to attend this meeting but I made it, I listened, I learned, and I talked when allowed. I guess I kind of seen what was to come later, present day, before it happened. I have my lunch with Senator Begay coming up and I free write more on it...

The Hardest Working... [Free Write]

In my internship I work with a lot of different people on our team and each person brings a certain value to the team and as a whole collective we are able to function with ease because everyone does their job. But there is one person, who does more than most and I feel she doesn't always get the recognition she should. Every team meeting we have I compliment her and I always tell her “thank you” and that she is doing a good job. She plays an important role in organization, with making sure the correct information is relayed to the right people. She is very humble in her doings, as I stated I give her recognition every team meeting and she just smiles at me. I see the hard work she puts in and I can relate, as I too was once a secretary of a department. She is Mayor Lewis' secretary but also apart of our team. She maintains everyone's travel schedule and ensures everyone's RSVP's to functions. She always makes sure we get the emails we need and then sometimes calls and verifies we have received them. She is always a pleasure to work with and when I am not there I hope she gets the utmost recognition for her hard work. The co-worker I am speaking of is Vicki, the most humble, respectful, and joyous person I have worked with here in Gilbert.

Start From Scratch... [Free Write]

So I have been taking advantage of all the networking opportunities, today they had a meeting of the all the interviewees for the assistant to the town manager position. I went into the meet and greet to network with all applicants. I was talking to a gentleman from Settle, WA and we talked about school and his public service commitment. He enjoys working for his city but wishes to advance in his career so he threw his name in at the Town of Gilbert. Talking with him and a few others put things into perspective to me a little. The commitment to public service, the willingness to change your location and move your family to pursue a career you enjoy to do. I am still not sure I necessarily want to go and work for my tribe, but irregardless if I do or not I will continue to help them, maybe consult. I know how to approach I and think it is my obligation to serve the public and tribal members on my reservation. I know there will be a time when I may want to leave the tribal government to work at another level/form of government and with talking to these applicants I understand if you truly like helping others you will take your show on the road. Everyone I talked to offered advice on my educational goals, and told me to stay focused and I will be joining them in working in government in no time. I'm networking at a descent rate and I really think I am almost ready and can't wait to get out there.

How does your organization demonstrate public service and/or urban governance...

So on this post we have a topic to write about, and this one is “How does your organization demonstrate public service and/or urban governance?”...

I am privileged to work in the Town of Gilbert intergovernmental relations department and working with a bunch of talented individuals that each bring something to the table. As apart of the team I understand how we play the background and do the leg work to help ensure the Mayor, Town Manager, and town council is ready and informed on all situations involving the Town of Gilbert and also the surrounding cities. We have to attend a lot of meeting to stay informed to help better ensure a wise decision, the team lobbies at the state to ensure the public in Gilbert get what they deserve. The town of Gilbert has been a rising town and receiving awards for the hard work that is done by all public servants. I see that working at the Town of Gilbert there is a lot of pride and everyone wants to maintain the status that has been achieved through the hard work. The team I know and am a part of takes public service very seriously, by reviewing emails, voice mails and letters all directed to the Mayor or the Town specifically and maintaining a professional relationship with the public. Addressing all questions, comments, and concerns in a timely manner servicing the public because that is big priority. I am a public service public policy major and this is what I like to see and how I want to be as a professional, putting the town and the public first, understanding the true meaning to public service.

Ready Set Go... [Free Write]

Well it seems there is an opening in the Town of Gilbert for the Assistant to the Town Manager. I was in a carpool heading to a grand opening with the team and I heard them say my direct supervisor Leah was interviewing for the position. I was astonished to her this but I was happy for Leah, she works really hard and is very good at what she does. Every time we have a one-on-one I soak up everything and anything I can obtain from her. She is molding me to become an efficient intergovernmental relations employee, because as we discussed in a meeting what this job entails is exactly what I would be doing when I return to my reservation and work with them. As we (my tribe) are a sovereign nation our government must establish good government-to-government relationships to ensure we can succeed as a whole. Whether it be dealing with local government, state government, and federal government someone will have to know how to approach the situation correctly. I imagine it would be a big departure to the intergovernmental relations team if she does receive the position but everyone there wants her to advance and the team is tight knit to where they will handle anything that may come. And I will be able to see the outcome during my internship as interviews are happening now and I think there will be some change in the department, we shall see. Ready set go...

Works Every Time... [Free Write]

So I've been to quit a few functions along with Mayor Lewis for the town of Gilbert, and it has been fun and educational. Working on the networking more and more, seeing the familiar faces and getting approached by others because I am new and becoming a familiar face too, haha. I was doing research on a project I am doing and I seen an article in a google search involving Gilbert and Cox cable. And as I stated before with the town council I have took it upon myself to do my own self research to be better informed on the personnel and topics. So I started to read into the incident and researched this topic more with what was available. So back to a function with Mayor Lewis, we were leaving a Maricopa Association of Governments (MAG) Passing of the Gavel luncheon, I was riding with Mayor Lewis and Councilwoman Daniels. It was then they started to talk about the situation with Gilbert and Cox cable. They were trying to remember the involvement of an individual and what the outcome of that was pertaining to the overall outcome. I mentioned what I knew from my research and it happens I knew the exact incident they were speaking of and I got a look from the both of them. They were impressed with my knowledge on the subject and being able to discuss it with them because this incident happened before my internship had started. Me taking the effort to learn more about the relevant subjects and to be knowledgeable enough to take any opportunity to show I am eager to be apart of the Town of Gilbert team, works every time.

Last time you seen... [Free write]

So I was working doing the weekly routine and we went to the Maricopa Association of Governments Economic Development meeting, and when we was returning my supervisor was talking with Mayor Lewis and was advising that I would be attending a “Town Meeting”. This was not on my calendar of meeting to attend this week so I was interested in what was going on. The Mayor was happy I was going to attend so I thought it was going to be an interesting engagement to attend.

So I got there early and I had a lot of eyes on me, people saying they seen me around the office so I introduced myself. And Mayor Lewis starting talking and called up to the front and introduced me to the Town Council, they were all very nice and opening to me. I wrote down and these names and listened to them and took notes every time they spoke that night. I knew to be better at my job I had to do my own research on them to better educated myself on the council members.

I have never been to a town council meeting or in a town hall or chambers before until now. I mean I have been in our tribal buildings and tribal council chambers for meeting but this was different to me because it was at a whole different level. I was comfortable with the seating, and was impressed with the cameras and speakers providing sound. If you miss a town council meeting you can watch it online as they record it and replay for the public, you can even sit outside town hall and watch the meeting on tv and listen to everything being said, I thought this was pretty cool. Other than networking and introducing myself to everyone I just watched and observed and took a lot of notes, I got comfortable to the atmosphere and truly believe I can get used to this environment.

Interview or a career path I aspire...

In this blog post I am to interview one of my supervisors OR profile a person who has a career that you aspire to... I thought about this for a day or two about how I was going to go about writing this and which side was I going to approach. I thought if I were being honest, and interviewed my supervisor, or wen about the profile a person who has a career that I aspire, it would be the same person. My supervisor at the Town of Gilbert, Leah Hubbard, who was the head of Intergovernmental Relations and then got the opportunity to take the Assistant to the Town Manager position.

I first met Leah when she came to my Reservation Economics class last year, and spoke to us about her position with the Town of Gilbert Intergovernmental Relations department. And as she broke down here job responsibilities I started to realize that her position in Intergov is basically the same thing I would be doing if I pursued a position with my tribe in tribal politics after I graduate from ASU. As a sovereign nation I would be basically be involved in government-to-government relations for my tribe, dealing with all the different governments. Instead of helping the Mayor of Gilbert I would be involved with our tribal council and the chairman, the same but different. I know she was first a lobbyist and worked her way to intergovernmental relations, that is a path I would be only hopefully I could take and gain that experience. Leah is a very educated individual with a Bachelor of Arts in Government and Politics from the University of Texas at Dallas and a Masters in Public Affairs from the University of Texas at Dallas. I have been given nothing but advise from Leah, and she continually asks me to ask her any questions to help better my knowledge to get to where I want to be, she wants to help me be successful.
Through all I have gained so far I knew I made the right decision in applying for this internship and I was lucky enough to make it past all other candidates. I know I will learn a lot with my time at the Town of Gilbert. And I hope maintain a good relationship with the Town and staff after my time here is up.

How does leadership play a role in your internship...

So this blog post is structured to answer questions given to us about leadership. And I am very comfortable answering these questions involving leadership because, I am learning a lot from the department I am in. I believe I stated it before, but everyday I learn something new from the people I work with and I observe and soak up everything I can from this opportunity.

How does leadership play a role in your internship?
Leadership plays an important role in my internship because I am surrounded by a very influential group of people, that all have different necessary roles to add to the department to provide a positive team work atmosphere. Through my direct supervisor I learned a lot more about leadership and I got to see some leadership aspects I have studied in classes be implemented the town government sphere.

Are you able to demonstrate any leadership skills?
I believe I am able to demonstrate a little of my leadership skill but my main purpose is to absorb and observe the government structure of the Town of Gilbert. I think my direct supervisor ables me to have wiggle room in making some decisions for my work projects but I know she is leading me to areas to improve in becoming the leader I strive to be.

How do your co-workers or supervisor display leadership capabilities?
The leadership style of my supervisor toward me are democratic with a little bit of authoritarian, and I believe this combination is what she seen in me and how I described my leadership style to her when asked in a one-on-one meeting. Through our one-and-one sessions we discussed how I wish to lead, my leadership style, and what I hope to gain from the internship to improve my leadership style. And from the information I gave she then started helping me learn more about leadership, by discussing different leadership style I see at different events and by emailing me leadership articles on a regular to read up and educate myself.

I believe I answered the questions for this post to the best of my knowledge and while re-reading what I wrote I am learning more and why some of the stuff was presented to me in the manner it was at the time and in the future.

Modern Man's Hustle... [Free Write]

So I did not know what the Career Service write up was, and when I checked my syllabus I realized I did not do that yet so I cannot write a post for it. Well the issue I am dealing with lately is time management. Time management because as I said before I am a father first, a student and a young professional. My kids have been very forgiving of me and my time management so far, I mean I am committing hours during the day to the internship, after that I still have a part-time job at Target so I will go there for my night shift and then I make it home. I will be tired as... well let's just say I'm tired. I usually will cook or attempt to have a meal with my kids. Then they know I have school work so they just lay by me and watch tv while I do my work. I usually then finish, move them to their bed or just lay with them and go to bed. I am missing a lot of valuable time with them lately, but they are very understanding for being this young, I think they understand that my hard work will pay off when I finish. I remind them all the time everything I do I do for us. I sacrifice sleep, food, and family time for them. But eventually it will pay out for all of us. I better go to sleep, I got another long day tomorrow.

Room with a View... [Free Write]

So I have a daily meet up with my supervisor in her office, she has the bigger office for the Intergovernmental Relations department, and a big window. And a majority of the time because she is busy, during our one-on-ones we get disturbed by a co-worker, a phone call, or something random. I have gotten used to this and I understand the level of importance of her being the boss and needing to know all the different information that will be pushed her way. So every time we are interrupted I just stare out the window, watch cars drive by, watch people walking outside, and just look at the clouds. The view is something I can see as some importance, like a big frame for your college degree on the wall. A sense of accomplishment, a trophy telling of your hard work. I say that because i'm still paying dues as an intern, just glad to be in the building, doing whatever they tell me and working hard to get noticed. As the office I am in has no windows, barely enough room for two-chairs for people to sit in my office and talk to me. So to look at what I have been dealt now with no windows to her office the whole wall a window, I look forward to advancing and earning that BIG window.

Trying to Find a Balance... [Free Write]

So the internship is fun and full of adventure, everyday is different. And everyday I learn something new and useful to put to my future career. So I have my work badge now, and it is used to get in and out of the building. I wear it on my belt loop, and when we go to different places during networking time and meet and greets people seem to see my badge. It's like a pass for a low-income minority to get into places where normally I would not be. Being around the different Arizona lobbyists, Senators, Mayors, and Town Managers. I know my role, or I am starting to understand it, during networking times it is for me to meet people and expand my network contacts. And to use this contacts, when they tell me if I need them for anything take them up on the offer, stay in contact with the people I do meet so I can be relevant to them because if and when I do reach out for that favor they can say, “yes, I do know him”. All joking aside, the people I do meet at these hour or so networking opportunities we get before the event are always interesting.

All In a Day's Work...

My day's don't differ to much, yet. I get to work somewhere between 7:00am-8:00am, it kind of depends on what we have on our schedules. I have been invited to attend different meetings and functions with the Intergovernmental Relations staff so sometimes I am required to be at the office earlier to carpool to these different functions if they are elsewhere and require transportation.

I have a small office, way in the back. I know what you are thinking, yeah they put the intern way in the back. Haha not true, as it turns out the Intergovernmental Relations department is in the back end of the building on the second floor. I have a laptop in my office and I first must check my business email to see if I have any new scheduling or articles to read so I can be informed on topics when we attend the different meetings and functions. If I have been giving an assignment I will be working on that until completion.

My boss Leah has me writing letters for Mayor Lewis and these assignments are helpful and also a learning experience. It was tough originally because I never wrote a letter for someone else let alone never meeting the person to understand how they communicate to others. But I gave it my best effort and believe I did well. The week is wrapping up and I hope next week is just as fun and I’m sure more learning opportunities are coming...

It's a Good Thing... [Free Write]

Well this past semester I was in a couple of different classes that has me viewing things in a way, a perspective that is different but should not be ignored. My first semester as ASU I had a professor that I really liked and ended up taking two more classes with her this past semester. These classes were, Federal Indian Policy and Reservation Economic Development.

As I venture in my Public Service Public Policy path I am told how we should view things and given examples of what it what. But I am first a Native American, and a lot of controversial issues come across the table all the time that involve my people or people that are Native Americans like me. So I sometimes come into situations where I hear different situations but for me I view everything with my Native culture background in mind. How will this affect my tribe, or any tribe.

This can possibly lead to problems for me in the long run, but think it is a good thing. Having my culture values with me and thinking of ways to make better decisions for me. Because as I stated before I am trying to learn all these skills that will be valuable to me to use back home with our tribal government. To help my tribe and my people, with government-to-government activity.

Just Another Day... [Free Write]

So upon starting this internship I realized that I will be in a position where I will be around a lot of important people, with that being said I knew I had to step up my business attire game. I have previously worked in an establishment where I was in a managerial position and had to wear suits everyday. But when I left that position to return to school I donated ALL my business attire to people on my reservation to help them have the proper attire for job interviews. It seems I only brought two pairs of dress pants, and two button up long sleeve shirts, one pair of dress shoes, and I am sitting okay with ties with about twelve.

Now I am thinking a clothing fund should be devised. This will be tough, I am a father first, a student, and I work a part-time job. So I don't really have an abundance of funds to just go out and go shopping for business attire. But I know if I want it bad enough I will find a way.

First I started to ask my friends if they can donate dress pants, long sleeve button up shirts, and ties. But soon found out that I am a different size than most of my business working friends. I did get a couple ties from one of my friends from Iowa, and that was cool and appreciated. Next, I had to ask friends to sponsor me, (ask for funding), I just explained my predicament. I didn't realize how much people supported me and only wanted me to do well, but with the help of three of my friends I was able to establish a clothing allowance to be complete and prepared attire wise for the internship.

Therefore, I would not be in this position with out my friends and family. Thanks for your support...

Another Level

This week was my first official week here at the Town of Gilbert, and the learning experience has been phenomenal. I am in the Native American Management Internship (NAMI) and am interning for the Town of Gilbert in the Intergovernmental Relations department. The purpose of the Intergovernmental Relations is to develop, represent and advocate the interests of the Town of Gilbert to the benefit of its citizens and business community. The office of Intergovernmental Relations houses the Town's policy and legislative team and staff for the Mayor and Council. It is a part of the Town Manager's Office and serves all Town departments as well as our elected officials. So to say the least, they do a lot and I hope to be put into the mix of doing all I can and learning everything they allow me to for experience purposes.

I am surrounded by a great bunch of people and the team functionality is awesome. I think I will adapt well to their fast pace and soon be a good asset to the team (crosses fingers). Right now, my work flow is mainly doing the different tasks they are giving me. I have learned that they are seeing what skill sets I have and what I can handle. So far I have been accomplishing everything that is being assigned to me and talks of my project are being tossed around. It appears that every intern for the Intergovernmental Relations department has a project that they will be assigned and will present this project to the Executive Team.

In the beginning I was told that our department is very active and we would be attending a lot of meeting and networking with all kinds of people, and I thought this is going to awesome because I really need to be more effective with my networking skills.

It's the dawning of a new era...

Hi, my name is Skye Mike and I am a junior working on my Bachelor's degree in Public Service Public Policy at Arizona State University. After I graduate I do plan on pursuing my MPA which may take me out of the state of Arizona for this next step in my educational advancements. I am of Mohave and Chemehuevi descent and an enrolled member of the Colorado River Indian Tribes located in Parker, AZ. I have the privilege of being apart of the Native American Management Internship at the Town of Gilbert working in the Intergovernmental Relations department. Ultimately I hope to use everything I obtain through my internship to better hone my skills for my professional career.

For my PAF 484 Internship course I have been given the task of creating a blog and I have objectives I must complete to get credit for my internship, which as I mentioned is at the Town of Gilbert Intergovernmental Relations department.

Three things I hope to get out of my internship are:
  • First I hope to learn the skill of effective communication, and I feel I am in the best hands to do so. The Intergovernmental Relations team here at the Town of Gilbert are amazing individuals and I know I will learn a lot from them.
  • Another skill set I hope to learn is networking. and to be able to utilize this resource well enough to work a crowd and make some connections that may become beneficial later in my career.
  • Finally I hope to learn to become an effective Intergovernmental Relations team member, they work with all aspects of local, state, and federal government. And do a lot of the behind the scenes work along with lobbying.

And through observation and hard work I hope to learn all these skills that will be valuable to me for use back home on my reservation with tribal relations of government-to-government activity.
